ARTIST STATEMENT
My interest and work over the years has led me to investigate and expand on the notion of man’s need to make a mark and to find a vehicle that allows me to work in a meaningful way. This includes finding the truth in the materials and methods as it applies to the ideas of Modern American Abstract Painting. I’m finding the process of creating and working this way is close to composing and playing American Jazz Music. I hear music when looking at paintings and I see pictures while listening to music.
Both disciplines developed somewhat simultaneously from their Classical European origins and evolved into what we know today as Jazz Music and Abstract Painting, art forms recognized as unique American expressions.
